Acne Scar Reduction with Scarguard

If you have not heard of Scarguard MD, then let me tell you what I have learned about this acne scar reduction product.

To understand how Scarguard works you should understand a little about scarring.  When skin is injured your body makes collagen to fill the gap.

This collagen is like a cement patch. There are no pores and sweat glands within this patch, making it look different from the surrounding skin.

As you might guess, to achieve the most natural look this patch should be as thin as possible. And that's where Scarguard comes in.

Yes, it's a scar cream, but does it remove scars?  There's a little more to it than that.  Nothing really "removes" a scar, but you can reduce the appearence of a scar.

Scarguard helps your skin reduce the thickness of scars. As your body repairs damaged skin by filling in the cut with collagen, it also creates an enzyme, collagenase, which helps melts away the collagen. When the balance of the two is correct, a relatively flat scar is formed.

On the other hand, if the balance is off, either too little collagen remains and a thin, sunken scar forms; or too much collagen builds up resulting in a thick raised scar. It's just not possible that the same scar removal cream could build-up a thin, sunken scar while reducing a thick, raised scar.

So in steps Scarguard MD.  A liquid treatment designed to reduce the appearance of thick and overgrown skin scars, including those produced by acne.  The lotion contains cortisone, vitamin E and silicone that form a clear protective film over a scar.

When it comes to acne scar reduction the treatment helps the appearance of overgrown scars, whether they are newly formed or have been there for decades, but is not recommended for acne scars that are sunken deeply into the skin. Scarguard was developed to reduce thick and raised scars.

There is one other thing you should know about.  Scarguard has an aroma... in fact some say it is just plain "stinky"!  The odor springs from the antiseptic that acts to cleanse the skin before forming it's protective coating. The manufacturer promises that within a short time the smell is completely gone

Scarguard MD® is currently available in thousands of Plastic Surgeons' and Dermatologists' offices as well as pharmacies nationwide. It can also be ordered through the company's website.
