Microderm Abrasion for Acne Scars

"Banish Acne Scars with Microdermabrasion..."

...You’ve probably heard of using microderm abrasion for acne scars, but if you’re anything like me, you have no idea what the process actually involves. I’ve got to admit, abrasion didn’t have good connotations for me.

I had an awful mental picture of a technician attacking the acne scars on my face with a piece of sandpaper. However, once I read up on the process, I realized that the reality was much different – and a lot less painful!

So read on for information on microdermabrasion for acne scars: how it works.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is basically a high-tech method of exfoliation. A specialized machine uses tiny aluminum oxide crystals, sterile and ground to a fine powder, to remove the outermost layer of the skin, and in the process, get rid of acne scars.

It is the latest cell renewal technique available on the market. And unlike it’s parent process, dermabrasion, microdermabrasion doesn’t involve anesthetics and recovery time.

How does it work?

The aluminum oxide crystals are projected over your skin by machine, removing the top layer of dead cells, while at the same time, sucking away the crystals and the dead skin cells with them.

Microdermabrasion stimulates your blood flow and while your blood is rushing to the surface of your skin, your oxygenation increases, your cell renewal is enhanced, and your collagen begins its re-growth process. Microdermabrasion allows your skin to replace dead cells much faster than the normal 28 days it takes for an adult, and you finish your treatment with a rosy, healthy complexion.

Is it painful?

Not if you consider a cat licking your face painful. Microdermabrasion is definitely not as bad as a technician attacking you with sandpaper would be. Most people who’ve had the treatment describe it as a “mild scratching sensation”. You’ll probably be a little pink for a couple of hours.

What can microdermabrasion be used for?

Microdermabrasion is being used all over the world to treat some of the following common skin conditions:

fine lines
superficial wrinkles
acne
superficial acne scarring
sun damage
rough skin texture
thickened skin areas
large pores
blackheads
brown spots

How do I know that this treatment is for me?

If the phrase “chemical peel” makes you shudder, or you’re just sick to death of acne medications that won’t work, microdermabrasion might be for you. Microdermabrasion is ideal for healthy people (men or women) with good skin tone and realistic expectations.

It isn’t a miracle acne scar cure, but you will feel a difference after the first treatment and see a difference after only a couple more.

What are the side effects?

Because microdermabrasion is such a safe process, when done correctly, you shouldn’t have to worry about anything other than a possible a slight tingle or the feeling that you’ve been mildly sunburned. However, you shouldn’t have microdermabrasion done on any active (weeping) acne, herpes, or undiagnosed lesions. Microdermabrasion can make those conditions worse.

For best results, listen to what your technician tells you, and follow the rules listed below:

Avoid the sun for a week or wear a sunscreen with a SPF of 30.
Avoid chlorine for at least a day.
Avoid strenuous activities directly after your treatment.
Avoid makeup for one day after treatment.

Most importantly, remember that only a physician or a licensed esthetician with specialized training should perform microdermabrasion.  It is an answer for man scars including smooth pitted acne scars.

For the ultimate in acne-fighting power it's the ProActi Solution System.
